Les Gorges du Toulourenc

The day started with yummy fresh French croissants and a cup of coffee, followed by our first visit to one of the wineries in the area, Chateau du Moulin. They had interesting wines and even their own made olive oil, which is so good for salad. After the wine tasting, we went to eat in one of the small villages around.

Then before the next wine tasting, we decided to go for a quick walk through the Gorges of the Toulourenc. Located north of Malaucène, the Gorges of the Toulourenc are a wonderful place to visit on a hot day. For this quick visit, we took Filou with us. Filou is a cute dog who likes water but hates rain, which is a bit weird.

There are not that many trails in the gorges on the side of the river, the only way to go is through the water. The refreshing, cold water is just so wonderful on a hot day even Filou enjoyed it.

Walking up the river is really nice, especially as the water is not deeper than keen high in most places. We did find one spot with deeper water, until the hips. Filou seemed a bit afraid to swim in it and was looking for alternatives. I was worried that he will slip and break a leg, therefore I decided to carry him, but he scratched me because he is not used to being carried, I got annoyed and dropped him in the water. Well, he had to swim a bit.

After our first visit to the gorge, we decided to come a second time to try to walk as much of it as we can, but without the dog.

For the afternoon, we visited Domaine des Anges for the second trip to wine tasting. It was interesting to learn about their wines, and especially that they have some red wines which are aged in amphoras, like the Greeks or ancient Greeks. This place is simply so beautiful, they even have a pool and you can actually rent some of the houses and have a holiday there, looks like heaven with wine.

A walk close to Rein Abbey, Austria

The trip this time was a small walk in the forest next to Rein Abbey, Steiermark, Austria. Rein Abbey is a wonderful Cistercian monastery founded in the 12 th century. If you hike in the forest next to this beautiful abbey, you will find one smaller church on the top of the hill and a chapel. There, we had a nice photo shooting for some LARP costume. I would say the place was just perfect to fulfil the purpose of our trip.  On the way back we were greeted by more snow and a lovely afternoon light filling the forest.

Wasserweg (the water path) in Liebenfels - part II

This blog post  is about the second half of the Wasserweg. You can read the first part and check out the beautiful pictures here . During the first hike, we did not manage to finish the entire hike. Hiking with older people means sometimes slowing down, taking more breaks and enjoying nature around you. Although, there is the possibility to drive somewhere to where the half hike would start, this time we did the entire thing in one walk. The path continues next to the stream until you reach a bigger waterfall. If you are lucky, you might have the waterfall all by yourself and not have to wait to take photos of this wonderful place.  After the waterfall, the path continues until the next village, where you can stop and have a snack. We didn’t really go until this restaurant or hut but instead stopped once we came out of the forest and just enjoyed the view and tried to pet a little pony. He did not seem impressed and wanted no pets, unfortunately. Overall, I find this h...

Felsenmeer

A truly magnificent sight, lots of huge rocks in a valley, is befitting the name of sea of rocks (aka Felsenmeer in German). After we moved to Darmstadt, I tried to find the most interesting areas to visit around, and Felsenmeer was one of those places. How exactly this sea of rocks formed I am not certain, but it seems a process that took many years.  The area now is quite popular, people often trying to either climb up or down the rocks. We went down, and although it can be fun jumping from one rock to another, it can also be dangerous.  Felsenmeer We did a round hike (11 km) around the area, where we saw many horses, and sheep, beautiful flowers, lots of stones, passed a tower called Owl Tower but did not see any owls.....passed a pond.....and had a lovely hike through the forest. Although the Felsenmeer was quite busy with people, the rest of the hike was nice and quiet.  Owl tower Find the frog
