Gozo – Day 5: Xatt l-Ahmar, Mġarr ix-Xini Bay, Xlendi Bay and Citadella

For the last 3 days of our trip to Malta, we travelled to Gozo. The day was cloudy and quite cold, but that did not stop us from visiting parts of Gozo. Our first stop on Gozo was Xatt l-Ahmar. It was windy and the sea was restless. Whenever I find myself in nature, be it at the sea or in the mountains, I get reminded of how beautiful and strong nature is.

Next place on our list was Mġarr ix-Xini; this place was recommended to us as being the most beautiful beach on Gozo which also had a very good restaurant. When we got there, the weather was grey and cold, we didn’t feel like swimming or eating at the restaurant, I quickly took some photos, and we were back on the road. The road to Mġarr ix-Xini is very narrow, often I had the feeling that we are just about to scratch the rented car, but all went well.

Our next stop were the Ta' Ċenċ Cliffs. By this time, the sun was out again. On the way there we had a lovely view of the Citadella, which we visited later and saw some houses with an interesting roof.

After the cliffs, we stopped to visit Xlendi Bay with the beautiful Ix-Xlendi-Turm and the beach around.

Then we visited Lazurowe okno and the Azure Window. However, there is no Azure Window anymore, as it crashed a few years ago. Still, it was a bit interesting trying to figure out where exactly this Azure Window was before.

Next, we visited the Citadella, and right at the entrance in the Citadella we were welcomed by a cat.

In the afternoon, after checking-in in one lovely old house/apartment, we were enjoying our time outside without realizing a cat came by to check us out. The whole situation with the cat was kind of strange, we were sitting at the table just talking and didn’t even realize that someone was spying on us. Apparently, some cat was interested to know who the new tenants are. He did not let us pet him, but was happy to receive food. We also found many lizards enjoying the afternoon sun.

A walk close to Rein Abbey, Austria

The trip this time was a small walk in the forest next to Rein Abbey, Steiermark, Austria. Rein Abbey is a wonderful Cistercian monastery founded in the 12 th century. If you hike in the forest next to this beautiful abbey, you will find one smaller church on the top of the hill and a chapel. There, we had a nice photo shooting for some LARP costume. I would say the place was just perfect to fulfil the purpose of our trip.  On the way back we were greeted by more snow and a lovely afternoon light filling the forest.

Wasserweg (the water path) in Liebenfels - part II

This blog post  is about the second half of the Wasserweg. You can read the first part and check out the beautiful pictures here . During the first hike, we did not manage to finish the entire hike. Hiking with older people means sometimes slowing down, taking more breaks and enjoying nature around you. Although, there is the possibility to drive somewhere to where the half hike would start, this time we did the entire thing in one walk. The path continues next to the stream until you reach a bigger waterfall. If you are lucky, you might have the waterfall all by yourself and not have to wait to take photos of this wonderful place.  After the waterfall, the path continues until the next village, where you can stop and have a snack. We didn’t really go until this restaurant or hut but instead stopped once we came out of the forest and just enjoyed the view and tried to pet a little pony. He did not seem impressed and wanted no pets, unfortunately. Overall, I find this h...

Felsenmeer

A truly magnificent sight, lots of huge rocks in a valley, is befitting the name of sea of rocks (aka Felsenmeer in German). After we moved to Darmstadt, I tried to find the most interesting areas to visit around, and Felsenmeer was one of those places. How exactly this sea of rocks formed I am not certain, but it seems a process that took many years.  The area now is quite popular, people often trying to either climb up or down the rocks. We went down, and although it can be fun jumping from one rock to another, it can also be dangerous.  Felsenmeer We did a round hike (11 km) around the area, where we saw many horses, and sheep, beautiful flowers, lots of stones, passed a tower called Owl Tower but did not see any owls.....passed a pond.....and had a lovely hike through the forest. Although the Felsenmeer was quite busy with people, the rest of the hike was nice and quiet.  Owl tower Find the frog
