This area is an ecological disaster which the Romanians apparently keep exploiting it. Nearby this place there is a copper mine which started being mined during the Communism regime. The people from the village were moved out and all the tailings were deposited in the valley, taking every year 50-100 cm from the surrounding area. Nowadays, the only visible construction from the village is the church tower.
For a long time, I wanted to visit the area. I have thought that the mining has stopped, I was really surprised to see that is not the case and the toxic materials which remain from the mining are being dumped in nature.
To get to the lake was actually not very easy. The road is pretty bad and for once we were happy to have an SUV. Ever since we left the village, I had a feeling that we are trespassing, but you are allowed in the area.
