Franz Scheikl via Ferrata

It rarely happens that someone will give up the first time they try something new. For me, the first via ferrata was not exactly great. I realized I am afraid of falling while on a via ferrata, because I cannot imagine what you are supposed to do, hang there until someone rescues you? Or try to climb back by yourself? And while I was doing the first via ferrata, I often asked myself, why do I want to put my life in danger? But, of course, like any other person, I did not give up and tried a different via ferrata. We planned to do it with Irma, but unfortunately, she was busy preparing something else, so instead Noah, a friend of Irma’s brother, who was visiting Europe, joined D. and me. He never tried via ferrata, and I was a bit worried whether he will be fine or not. But he did great. Our second via ferrata was Franz Scheikl path which leads to Hochlantsch. This via ferrata is often recommended for beginners, although there is a part which is marked with D (meaning hard). But, ...

Gozo-Malta – Day 7: Ramla Bay and Imgiebah Bay

The place where we stayed in Gozo for 2 nights looked straight out of a travel magazine. We had a beautiful pool, and the entire building was made of limestone, very rustic. When I saw it the first time, I did not like it, but after the first night, I loved it. It was in a rural area, very quiet, and not all apartments were rented out. We only had to share the pool with another couple, which was perfect. On the way back to the harbour, we had a stop at the golden beach in Ramla Bay. Unfortunately, we had no time for swimming.  We said goodbye to Gozo and took a ship back to Malta.  Before we went back to the airport, we visited one more place, Imgiebah Bay. By car, the road left really narrow, but with a bit of care, we did not scratch the car. I loved this place, it felt so rural, and of course, no one was there. The last photo of beautiful Malta is just flowers. The flora in Malta is lovely and we were lucky...

Gozo - Day 6: Billingshurst Cavern

The day was fully packed. First stop was Wied il-Għasri,  followed by Cathedral Cave (Ghar ir-Rih) and Billingshurst Cavern. Walking along the seashore was beautiful. We saw many salt pans and some stone art made by someone, I’m sure it took some time to put all the stones in place. We also visited Qolla l-Bajda Battery. On this day we were supposed to do Scuba diving but without success. My sister is claustrophobic, and D. also has some issues; therefore, we were not allowed to go Scuba Diving without a paper from a doctor proving that my sister and D can do Scuba diving. Somehow, I was a bit relieved, I was not so keen on doing Scuba Diving, as I sometimes panic when I am under the water. We spent most of the afternoon in the pool. In the stone fence next to the pool we saw an fascinating reptile, first I thought it was a snake, but it was actually a lizard without legs.  [our spy and visitor] [legles...

Gozo – Day 5: Xatt l-Ahmar, Mġarr ix-Xini Bay, Xlendi Bay and Citadella

For the last 3 days of our trip to Malta, we travelled to Gozo. The day was cloudy and quite cold, but that did not stop us from visiting parts of Gozo. Our first stop on Gozo was Xatt l-Ahmar. It was windy and the sea was restless. Whenever I find myself in nature, be it at the sea or in the mountains, I get reminded of how beautiful and strong nature is. Next place on our list was Mġarr ix-Xini; this place was recommended to us as being the most beautiful beach on Gozo which also had a very good restaurant. When we got there, the weather was grey and cold, we didn’t feel like swimming or eating at the restaurant, I quickly took some photos, and we were back on the road. The road to Mġarr ix-Xini is very narrow, often I had the feeling that we are just about to scratch the rented car, but all went well. Our next stop were the  Ta' Ċenċ Cliffs. By this time, the sun was out again. On the way there we had a lovely view of the Citadella, whic...
