My planned trip for this year with my sister was to visit Athens.
My sister studied archaeology and she’s always been interested to visit Athens,
especially after we’ve visited Rome last year.
For the first day visit in Athens we decided to take a free guided
tour through the city, before we make our own plan for the following days. Our
guide was a local person which studied tourism and in his free time he organizes
walking tours through the city. I’ve became quite familiar with these free
guided tours in different cities and of course it depends a lot on the guide
how the tour will be.
The meeting point was some small church near Electra
Metropolis Hotel. From there we’ve first seen one cathedral, I don’t remember
the name of it, I took no photo, but I have a photo of the small church next to
it.
We walked
through the National garden, I was so impressed to see so many animals there.
From there we went to see the change of the guards, which was quite
funny. The ceremony is really interesting, their movements resembles a horse movement,
you have to see it is really cool, check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVNNwqw1oe0
Afterwards we saw the Panathenaic Stadium were the ancient
Olympic games took place.
Then we saw the Temple of Olympian Zeus, only from the outside, we
saw it in more detail on another day, I will write about that.
And then we got
lost on the streets in the Plaka, quite nice area.
In the evening we’ve walked through a park next to were we
stayed and had a nice view of the Acropolis.
