Living in Austria is quite nice, the mountains are never far, and some mountains can easily be reached by public transport.
Today was Schöckl day. Schöckl is the closest mountain to Graz that is 1445 m high. Every year there is a running competition organized here, I've never thought of participating but I am always amazed seeing people running all the way up on a mountain and then down again.
When hiking on Schöckl, usually people hike starting in St. Radegund bei Graz, right where the cable car is, but there is another hike route that takes you up from a different direction, which I find it nicer because there are not that many people hiking that route, making it a bit wilder.
The hike takes you through forests, passing different huts, to finally reaching the last ascending portion...
....and in the end to the cross.
We were in luck to see many spring flowers on the top.
One thing I like about Schöckl is that no matter if you hike it in winter, spring, summer or autumn, there is always at least one mountain hut open where you can get food and drinks, meaning many people will be there and where people are so are dogs, perfect for my photography project.
The funny part about the whole trip was that when we finally reached the bus station, being happy that we are still "alive", a guy comes the same way we did, with a huge backpack, hiking casually. I was surprised to see how fast he was walking and on the top of that carrying a filled huge backpack. I thought he will most probably wait for the bus with us, but no, he takes the only bike that was parked next to the bus stop and off he goes. That really made me say wow and think that I should try to motivate myself to do more things and hike more often.
