The Graz Urwald is a nice park where you can find trees from
all over the world, of course the main attraction of the park is the sequoia and
the bamboo forest. D really wanted to go there after he heard about this park,
and we’ve been postponing our trip there mainly because of laziness.
The day was beautiful, sunny and very warm, despite the last
couple of days have been cold, and since I’ve been using my bike more often, I
thought a bike trip to the Graz Urwald would be a great idea to spend the Sunday.
Also, I wanted to test my new camera, which I bought from one of my friends, so
some photos are taken by D with my Nikon D300s and the rest are taken with my
new Canon 40D with a 50mm lens.
To be honest, is not very easy to find the
entrance to the park. It is somewhere between two houses and there is no board
or any information telling you that this is where the park starts. On the other
hand, if you bike a bit further you will find another sequoia but is inside
someone’s garden. Once you’ve figured out where the park starts, the first
thing you will see is the sequoia, not very tall, but with a large trunk. Of
course, like most people who encounter a large tree, the first thing I did was
hugging the trunk, then I found some cones from the tree and decided to pick
some, maybe someday we could plant our own sequoia.
After inspecting the tree from all different
angles, we walked through the park and we kept on walking next to a stream,
into another forest nearby. It was quite a peaceful walk.
