Athens – National Archaeological Museum

For our last day in Athens, we visited the National Archaeological Museum, also due to bad weather, it rained almost the entire day. We were lucky because you could visit it for free, but the downfall of it was huge crowd of people, which was not so nice. While visiting we discussed that if you could take anything from the museum what would you take, I decided that I would either take the hedgehog (first photo of this post) or the piggy bank  (second photo in this post). We've also seen interesting vases,  phallus shaped spoon and ladle,  an octopus pained vase, some Egyptian monkeys, a lot of jewelries and many more. The museum is really big, we kind of got bored after a while and just passed different rooms in search of interesting pieces instead of stopping and looking at all the statues, or vases. One of the statues caught my attention, my imagined dialogue goes like this: The lady: If you ...

Athens – Lycabettus Hill

Unfortunately we had a change in our plan for the trip to Athens, we were supposed to spend our last days on the beautiful island called Agistri, but due to the Medicane ( https://news.sky.com/story/mediterranean-hurricane-dubbed-medicane-to-hit-greek-islands-11510185 ) no ship or boat left Athens, we’ve wasted an entire day just to be told that due to strong winds we won’t get to Agistri. So, we had a change of plans for the last days in Athens. On the next day we decided to walk up to Lycabettus Hill. On the way there we’ve met so many hungry cats, which was really nice, because we had enough food to feed them all. The view from the top was amazing, but it strengthened my idea that I would not like to live in Athens, so many living blocks all around, no matter in which direction you look and not much green. After Lykabettus, we headed towards the Agora market, where we had fresh food and bought so many fruits and vegetables. Lat...

Athens – Kerameikos, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Archaeological Site of Lykeion, and War Museum

Our third day started with visiting the Kerameikos. After walking around and seeing the graveyard stones, we went into the museum. I was impressed to see a hint of ancient Egypt influence in the sculptures we encountered. Next was visiting the temple of Olympian Zeus, quite interesting, but very dusty, especially as the wind was strong. On our way to the Archaeological site of Lykeion, we passed again through the park and we’ve seen the guards at the Presidential Maison, this time they were wearing a different uniform. After visiting the Lykeion, we came across the War Museum. I really liked this museum. There were so many wonderful weapons inside, many made of gold or having a gold hilt. I totally recommend this museum, there is so much to see and learn about the wars in which Greece participated. And of course, we've encountered and fed many cats.

Athens - Acropolis and Ancient Agora

The second day was mainly tourist day, we’ve started with visiting the Acropolis. I guess Athens like Rome is always full of tourists, is hard to take nice photos when there are a lot of other people around all trying to take good photos, or selfies. The amphitheaters which you can see before reaching the acropolis were quite nice. I like to visit historical places with my sister, because I can ask her what she knows about. Next, we saw the Parthenon, which is under constructions. Had an amazing view over the city and really liked the Caryatids, later I’ve found out that the one on the Acropolis are just copies, the real ones are in the museum. After a stroll through the city we went to see the ancient Agora market. On our visit through Athens we’ve met many dogs and cats, and after this day we decided to buy cat food and feed all the cats we will see through Athens.
