Grüner See

This beautiful lake is located in Styria, Austria, and during the spring the lake gets filled with water from the mountains due to snow melting and often “swallowing” benches, flowers and paths. After seeing this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJdFvkXEgBU , I really wanted to see the lake in spring as well. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to swim in the lake, and I am not certain if scuba diving it allowed anymore. Would have been a nice adventure though… Besides the lake you can see the Hochschwab Mountains.... ...walk beautiful paths in the forest ...see flowers underwater ...more beautiful spring flowers ...and another small but lovely lake.

Klanglicht

Klanglicht is a light and sound festival that takes place every year in Graz, this year was the third edition and I finally got to see it. From my perspective it was very interesting, although there were many people, but the light projected and the music that accompanied each of the light projections was amazing. We saw all of them but only took photos of the “Pool” ….”Transience” and “Axioma. Interested to learn more about the festival, check their website: https://www.klanglicht.at/

Paris - Day 2

The second day started a bit later than the first one. Our objective was to see the last landmarks of the city which we haven’t seen a day before, therefore it felt like a “run” through Paris. First stop was Sacré - Cœur , lovely church, different architectural style than Notre-Dame, located in a lovely area of Paris. Going all the way up to Sacré - Cœur, although the way might be strenuous, gives you an amazing view of the city. From there we walked to Moulin Rouge . The streets close to Sacré - Cœur are crowded with artists displaying their works and tourists. I really enjoyed this part of Paris. After Moulin Rouge, we made a very quick stop to see the Arc de Triomphe . Next stop was the Eiffel Tower , unfortunately we did not go up, there was a huge crowd and we just didn’t have the time for it. But we did walk the lovely park where the tower is. And the last stop of the day was the Père Lachaise cemetery. I was surprised that so many fa...

Paris - Day 1

Paris is not really on my top list of places to visit, but since I was offered the opportunity to visit it, I did and now I can say I’ve been to Paris, the place that many couples want to go because it is said to be a very romantic city. Since I was there only for 2 days, my lovely boyfriend, D., decided to give me a tour through one of his favorite cites, meaning I didn’t have to organize anything, so I let myself be surprised. The first stop for the first day was Notre-Dame de Paris, as always cities like Paris and Rome are always crowded with tourists no matter during which time of the year you go. The Cathedral was nice, but I was not impressed, people always talk so highly of Notre-Dame and I know is one of the finest Gothic churches ever built, but still, is beautiful and that’s all. The stained glasses inside were interesting, thought. After walking around and losing a bit our way, passing the Shakespeare and Co. bookstore, we went to see Louvre, at least from t...

The Battlefield of Verdun

On my first trip to France, we’ve made the first stop in Verdun, a place famous for one battle during the First World War, called the Battle of Verdun that took place in 1916. Today the battlefield of Verdun is a place of museums and memorials.   On our way to visit the Fort Douaumont, we saw the Douaumont Ossuary where more than 100000 soldiers rest.   The walk to the Fort is very nice, a small forest on both sides of the road, which still holds the battle marks even after more than 100 years. We were a bit disappointed to find out that the Fort Douaumont was closed, although on the internet we did not find any information about the fort being closed. But despite that, we could walk around the Fort Douaumont and see it at least the outside and its surroundings. On our way back to the car, we made a short stop in the graveyard and at the Ossuary.

Schöckl - First hike of the year

Living in Austria is quite nice, the mountains are never far, and some mountains can easily be reached by public transport. Today was Schöckl day. Schöckl is the closest mountain to Graz that is 1445 m high. Every year there is a running competition organized here, I've never thought of participating but I am always amazed seeing people running all the way up on a mountain and then down again. When hiking on Schöckl, usually people hike starting in St. Radegund bei Graz, right where the cable car is, but there is another hike route that takes you up from a different direction, which I find it nicer because there are not that many people hiking that route, making it a bit wilder. The hike takes you through forests, passing different huts, to finally reaching the last ascending portion... ....and in the end to the cross. We were in luck to see many spring flowers on the top. One thing I like about Schöckl is that no matter if you hike it in winter, spring...
