A day dedicated to Gaudi

Our third day in Barcelona, although it felt more like a second day as the first day we mainly traveled there, we dedicated to seeing many of Gaudi’s famous attractions.

We started again at the Arc de Triomph and photographed some parrots. I find it amazing to see parrots in the city, I’ve never been to any exotic places where you have parrots everywhere so seeing parrots in Spain for me is something wow.

Walked a bit in the Parc de la Ciutadella and saw the beautiful park’s fountain. This time we saw a mother duck with her ducklings.

Next stop was House Mila which looks amazing, then some more interesting looking houses, not certain if they are also designed by Gaudi.

On our way to the La Singular restaurant, we’ve met another cute dog.

The restaurant La Singular looks really nice inside and the food was amazing.

From there we headed towards Park Güell. It is indeed a nice park but extremely touristic, especially the area for which you need a ticket.

The other part of the park for which you don’t have to pay is also worth seeing, you will have a wonderful view over the city and see some beautiful houses.

On the way back to the city, we stopped to see the façade of House Batlló, but was under maintenance.

Next stop was La Sagrada Familia and we decided to see it only from the outside to avoid waiting in line and paying quite some money for the ticket. The geometrical shaped scene of the crucifixion of Jesus presented on one of the sides of La Sagrada Familia is quite fascinating.

The last thing we saw that day was a house of cats, not sure if they have cats inside.

One more interesting happened, late after dinner on our way back with the metro, we saw some cute small mice in a metro station so we put some nuts next to their hole and waited for them to come out and take the nuts. Guess what? Instead of two cute mice, two big cockroaches crawl out of the hole and take 2 pieces of the nuts, and then a third one tried to take the last piece but then a mouse bit the cockroach. That was really crazy to see cockroaches coming out of the hole.

A walk close to Rein Abbey, Austria

The trip this time was a small walk in the forest next to Rein Abbey, Steiermark, Austria. Rein Abbey is a wonderful Cistercian monastery founded in the 12 th century. If you hike in the forest next to this beautiful abbey, you will find one smaller church on the top of the hill and a chapel. There, we had a nice photo shooting for some LARP costume. I would say the place was just perfect to fulfil the purpose of our trip.  On the way back we were greeted by more snow and a lovely afternoon light filling the forest.

Wasserweg (the water path) in Liebenfels - part II

This blog post  is about the second half of the Wasserweg. You can read the first part and check out the beautiful pictures here . During the first hike, we did not manage to finish the entire hike. Hiking with older people means sometimes slowing down, taking more breaks and enjoying nature around you. Although, there is the possibility to drive somewhere to where the half hike would start, this time we did the entire thing in one walk. The path continues next to the stream until you reach a bigger waterfall. If you are lucky, you might have the waterfall all by yourself and not have to wait to take photos of this wonderful place.  After the waterfall, the path continues until the next village, where you can stop and have a snack. We didn’t really go until this restaurant or hut but instead stopped once we came out of the forest and just enjoyed the view and tried to pet a little pony. He did not seem impressed and wanted no pets, unfortunately. Overall, I find this h...

Felsenmeer

A truly magnificent sight, lots of huge rocks in a valley, is befitting the name of sea of rocks (aka Felsenmeer in German). After we moved to Darmstadt, I tried to find the most interesting areas to visit around, and Felsenmeer was one of those places. How exactly this sea of rocks formed I am not certain, but it seems a process that took many years.  The area now is quite popular, people often trying to either climb up or down the rocks. We went down, and although it can be fun jumping from one rock to another, it can also be dangerous.  Felsenmeer We did a round hike (11 km) around the area, where we saw many horses, and sheep, beautiful flowers, lots of stones, passed a tower called Owl Tower but did not see any owls.....passed a pond.....and had a lovely hike through the forest. Although the Felsenmeer was quite busy with people, the rest of the hike was nice and quiet.  Owl tower Find the frog
