Trieste

Trieste is one of the Italian cities that is not really like the rest, being near the sea is quite nice. The architectural styles around the city remind me of an Austrian city more than an Italian one, no wonder as Trieste was an important seaport during the Habsburg Monarchy. We were in Trieste for 2 days, mainly because one of my friends had her graduation party. In the first day I gave my camera to Dorian and asked him to photograph whatever he finds interesting. On his way through the city, he visited the Castello di San Giusto and some park nearby. One the second day, we visited Miramare Castle. It was raining badly, so we had nice visit of the Castle and learned about its history. It was built by Ferdinand Maximilian, the Austrian Archduke and his wife Charlotte of Belgium. It has a nice architectural style, being built after eclectic architectural styles of Austria, Germany and England.

Zirbitzkogel (2396 m)

For the last hike of the year we decided to go to Zirbitzkogel, one of the easiest hikes in the near of Graz with an altitude higher than 2000 m. The hike didn’t start very happy, we got lost on the way, didn’t take the right exit from the highway and end up in the location from where the hike starts quite late. On the top of that I’ve lost a bottle of water, somehow the water leaked out of the bottle and my entire backpack was wet. But the weather was sunny and nice. The first part of the hike was easy, and we encountered many people and some cute dogs. Then the harder part came, the last 200-300 m in altitude were not that easy, and it was quite windy. But we managed in the end.  Had a stop at the hut for eating and drinking a warm tea, half the cup was full of sugar, but it tasted good, nevertheless. Somehow the peak reminded me of my hike in Scotland, there on Ben Macdhui there are several stone forts where you can hide from the wind....

Kesselfallklamm – autumn version

We visited Kesselfallklamm again, but this time in autumn. There was so little water flowing through the gorge, we simply did not expect that. The day was beautiful and sunny. I love sunny autumn days, when the forests are so colorful and the temperature outside is just perfect for walks. We picked up stones again, the stones always look so pretty when they are wet. And photographed many mushrooms. The colourful leaves in the water looked so nice. Found the nest of a spider... and a clover that looks like a butterfly.   The walk through the gorge always ends with seeing the stone gate and walking through the forest.
